Advertising discourages people from being different individuals by making us want to be and to look the same. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Obviously, we are living in an advertising-ubiquitous world, from newspaper advertorials to large outdoor banners, from 5-inch screens to TV full screens in the supermarkets and on the streets. Therefore, these is a mounting concern that personal identity would be ruined when a host of people try to catch the latest trend without wondering whether this style fits them or not . In my opinion, this concern is not quite groundless.

Today’s marketers are indeed too wise. By launching such marketing campaigns as celebrity endorsement or crazy sales, , they can make consumers run out of cash in just a short while. Buyers might be also afraid that if they do not get the latest trends, they would go out of style.

However, many are unaware that their individuality might be lost when they rush out to grab the newly-produced items. The case of iPhone 6 is an example. On the release date, thousands of people over the world waited in very long lines outside Apple branches to buy it or to show that they were tech-savvy. This, as a result, affects each person’s identity because there are too many purchasers using the same products.

Nevertheless, “Difference” is the decisive factor for the survival of well-known brands. Advertising makes buyers look the same, but it itself also makes them different. The typical evidence is that beside mainstream products , many brands release special limited editions  merely for a specific group of consumers. A limited edition is restricted in the number of copies produced, although in fact the number may be very low or very high. Accordingly, brands can make consumers outstanding with their particular products.

In conclusion, advertisers can either highlight your unique features  or ruin them. Each purchaser, therefore, should be wise to make the right choices before the temptation of advertisement.
